Echo Family of high quality Network Multiplexers

The Eloquence Echo multiplexer integrates voice and data traffic on E1 or fractional E1 circuits. Because multiple circuits for different applications are no longer required, the Echo has a typical payback period of less than twelve months dependent on the traffic and circumstances.

The Echo Mux provides two n x 64kb/s X.21/V.11 or V.35 data channels with an option for an additional pair of n x 64kb/s data channels.

A "drop and insert" interface or PCM/ADPCM interface option may also be added.

The "drop and insert" interface allows user specified timeslots to be passed transparently between the "drop and insert" port and the main link.

With the PCM/ADPCM interface, PABX voice channels are compressed freeing bandwidth for data applications, PCM digitised voice is compressed using the ADPCM algorithm with no noticeable degradation of quality. This effectively free bandwidth can be allocated to legacy data, videoconferencing or to an optional router.

Option modules for the Echo LANlink include a high performance router, giving a true "one box" solution to network integration. This router offers hardware compression to improve throughput and decrease latency

The Echo Mux enables up to four n x 64kb/s connections to the link, the "drop and insert" option liberates unused bandwidth from the 2Mb/s connection between a pair of PABX; this bandwidth is effectively free and may be used for LAN interconnection, Videoconferencing etc.

Communication between the two PABX is not restricted by the drop and insert option.

Configuration is simple enabling installation by non-expert personnel. System malfunctions are pinpointed by the powerful diagnostics built into the Echo.

The multiplexer will combine non-contiguous 64K time slots permitting unrestricted use of fractional E1 circuits.

Optional PCM/ADPCM compression enhances "drop and insert" operation on any PABX interconnections. Since the compression option halves the bandwidth required for a voice channel, approximately half of the link bandwidth is available for other data usage even when the PABX transmits 30 concurrent voice channels.

Compression of the voice channels bandwidth using ADPCM technology does not affect operation and maintains excellent voice quality. Half of the original bandwidth is now available for data traffic.

The Drop & Insert option may also be used to connect multiple Echos into one E1 circuit.

Echo LAN Link

The Echo LANlink offers all the Echo Mux advantages and more. The LANlink is built into a larger fan-cooled enclosure, and features a powerful router with hardware data compression for Ethernet connection.

Hardware compression in the optional router operates at up to 2Mb/s permitting data transfer with negligible delays, this advantage is combined with a formidable performance specification which includes:- a filtering rate of 15,000 minimum length packets per second and a 1,800pps forwarding rate with just 1Mb/s of uncompressed bandwidth.

The integral router option maximises use of the additional bandwidth by use of sophisticated hardware compression.

Router operation may be interrogated by an SNMP workstation for easy network management.
