Product Description

The FC2073 provides a quick and easy way of allowing G.703 equipment to interface and communicate over fibre optic circuits.

The FC2073 is designed as a plug and play converter. There are no clocks to configure and the user can choose between standard 75ohm BNC or 120ohm connectors (for interfacing over twisted pair cables).

The front panel LEDs allow the user to identify that valid HDB3 data is being received and that fibre interface is also receiving a valid optic signal. If the remote unit is not receiving a valid fibre signal the fibre LED will flash indicating a system problem.

The front panel provides the user with the facility to apply two different local loops to the unit. A single switch selects either a fibre optic loop or a bi-lateral PCM loop.

The same switch also allows both the fibre and PCM loops to be applied simultaneously. The unit will also react to G.703 loop Up and loop Down commands as can be issue from the ET2148 PCM tester.

The unit can also apply a remote loopback on the distant unit. This loop ,which is to the remote fibre circuitry, is confirmed locally as being active by a front panel LED. This remote loop facility allows the user to verify the integrity of the local unit and the fibre optic circuit.

If the unit is attached to a PCM network , it can also react to loop commands received from the distant end of the network. The unit signals that such a loop is applied by flashing the Data indicator on the front panel.
